Our history

Founded in 1968 by Mr and Mrs Hazan, Apostrophe starts as a family business specialized in women’s ready-to-wear distribution.

Their son Patrick Hazan grows up in this atmosphere which naturally leads him to draw his first sketches when he was only seventeen years old. His pieces are noticed in different European fairs and the designer is encouraged to revolutionize the house’s style and habits.

In 1978, the young pioneer opens his first boutique on rue Bonaparte, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Près.

At that time, ready-to-Wear is facing an unprecedented rise and Apostrophe establishes itself as a brand known for its remarkable, timeless and modern style. Clothes are built as a second skin to magnify the woman’s body. Cuts are loose and the looks are a subtle mix of elegance and seduction. The Apostrophe woman knows the rules for a refined, confortable and feminine style.

In 1995, the family story continues with the second generation. Dominique and Patrick Hazan lead Apostrophe to a new path with an international development. He focuses on creation and she works on the commercial expansion. At the dawn of the 2000’s, the couple writes a four-handed new chapter and settles in a historical 1900’s building. In this place where fabrics have always been kept and cherished, the Apostrophe spirit finds its way. “To preserve the soul of everything with transformation”, this is Patrick Hazan’s motto.

Following the rhythm of modern customs, Apostrophe dresses powerful and talented women up, looking for well-being, savoir-faire and delicate sensuality. With a wardrobe made for all the important moments of her life, the Apostrophe woman has a singular identity and plural desires. The designer pictures this woman in her office in the morning, in a plane during the afternoon and attending a preview at night, always waving her femininity like a flag.

In 2005, Apostrophe unites with George Rech and both houses move to the 8th arrondissement of Paris, to pursue a mutual story. A story that gets a new tasteful and audacious tone, provided by the third generation. Born and raised in this unique life project, Frédéric and Laura Hazan contribute to enhance the family’s enterprise. A current vision, true to both houses’ values and philosophy.
